The Inevitable Compulsions Of The Heart

Well it seemed for a while like I had the upper-hand.
You were looking for fun and I was fairly detached.
To play along – in hindsight, that was the plan.
But the tricks to this game my heart couldn’t understand.

Now incessantly it pulls at its dangling threads.
Wrenching and plucking its ornate mesh,
Ripping frayed fabric to fragile shreds,
Weaving tassels to braid a bridge to your breast.

These patterns criss-crossing unconsciously stitched,
Love-cords entwining to get hearts hitched,
Never meant to be woven one-way strings,
Patiently waiting for your strands to spring.

Except baby I know I’m not the one.
Soon you’ll unravel yarns lovingly spun.
You’ll go look for other avenues of fun,
And I’ll inevitably follow, wherever you run.

Praying these strings someday come undone.

  1. I can’t begin to describe how beautifully you have written this one. I am short of words. It hits the right spot. Well this isn’t new, you never cease to amaze me with your works. Incredibly beautiful and extremely touching. Great post Tanya! 🙂

    1. Oh hang in there, this too shall pass. Sometimes love isn’t meant to work out I guess. Thank you for stopping by and sending love. I hope you find all that you’re looking for. ❤️

      1. Hahaha, yeah! 😀 Thank you for asking! 🙂 London was amazing! I really enjoyed the time there and didn’t want to leave. I spotted so many different and awesome places and the people are so kind. Camden Town and Covent Garden were my favourites! And the underground is so cool, you can really reach everything by tube!
And yes we went shopping a lot. :’D For now I am avoiding huge stores, they are just so exhausting… :’D

      2. I wish I could say I’m not jealous but that would be a lie. Have a great day littlegreenraven, it’s always nice to hear from you. Good night from this end. 🙂

  2. Wow! My Tanya, I am so impressed. Your words capture feelings we have all experienced. They paint unreciprocated love with a whole new layer of poetic contemplation. The images are gorgeous!
Your lines turn a painful experience into a heart tearing moment of beauty.
Thank you for sharing 💕 and you rock!

      1. I usually write using simple words but it’s just what comes out. I’m trying to broaden my vocabulary as always and incorporate it in my stories and poems. I’ve always read a lot from a very early age but only been writing just over a year. 😊

      2. Oh same story here. I always had these thoughts in my head but never tried to get them on paper. It’s been around four months I’ve been writing this blog and it is tremendously satisfying! Have to start reading more though, which reminds me I have to visit your site. Doing that right now! 🙂
